RE: The Bar
Things are fine for me and my crew. We moved to a new house and I'm still nesting. I have an oven that works now and have been catching up on all of the baking that I used to wish I could do
A party without cake is really just a meeting |

Finally dragged myself in here today. Entre Nous, you don't want me to play darts with you. I've skunked many a person...but if you're game, I'll play.
Just let me get a really tall rootbeer first. Rey, that was a really good story. Thanks for posting that! The Groundhog lied. |

RE: The Bar
Oh sorry to see that NWo has left the bar.
Well the tale of our 1st bike. My Hubby has always known that he's wanted a bike, but wasn't sure which one was the one for him/us. Our trek towards the BMW was after reading a wonderful novel by our host and benifactor Bubba and then seeing the show Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. After that it sealed the deal for a Beemer, but then the problem became which one was the right one for us? Getting a bike was to be a shared experience for us to spend quality time together. He had his gear plus motorcylce license in hand and one spring day in 2006 we set off to the local bike dealer to see what was in the showroom. I will admit that I was very very hesitant about getting a bike as I had not been brought up or around bikes. The only exposure to being on a bike was 2 previous rides. The first time was on a Harley with my friend's uncle(I was 11) no gear or helmet and it was not a fun ride. The second time was with my Hubby on my brother's Yamaha sport type bike, again no gear and not a fun ride. So when we got to the dealership my Hubby talked with one of the salesmen and the guy was kind enough to take outside a variety of BMW's. He lined them up in a row a GS, GT, RS, RT and a K1200 LT ( don't ask me what the others were I don't remember, but the Hubby does and I can't ask him as tonight he's playing at the Firehouse). I felt like Goldylocks as I got on and off trying each type of bike saying things like "oh, no I don't feel comfortable on this, I'm afraid I'll fall off, e.t.c" finally I got on the LT and said "It's just right". So know we knew what type we wanted and so began the hunt. He began by looking in the papers and online. I'd come home from work and he would fire up the computer and show me what he had found, but they would either be to far away to have a decent look at or the cost was way over the top for the age and condition of the bike. I knew he was getting desperate as the riding season was starting to get into swing and "the itch to ride" was calling to him. I came home from work one night and he excitedly exclaimed "I've found one, it's K1200LT a 2001 and it's only maybe 2 hours away, the price is good and I've talked to the seller and I told him we will come down this Saturday to look at it". I think there was a few grumbled words to him and said "well is there a picture of it? what color is it?". As he's bringing up the online picture he tells me the color is ...mauve. At this point I'm thinking OMG! he's so desperate to get a bike that he is willing to own a Mary Kay colored bike. For those of you who don't know who or what is Mary Kay, well it is a women's cosmetic line of make-up products with the signature color being pink. I'm cringing to see the picture when behold to my eyes the color is a dark purple eggplant with a metalic sheen thru it. That Saturday we headed south to the seller's house to take a look at the bike. John was gracious and allowed me to get on and see how it felt and then my Hubby got on and turned the key. Sighhhhhhhh that sound that a Beemer makes was enchanting, then John asked if he wanted to take her around the block for a spin. I got off becuase I had no helmet or gear. When he came back the smile was from ear to ear and I knew it was the one. We talked with John and got the necessary info needed to start the loan paperwork, and on that Monday made an appointment with the loan officer. 1 week went by and the details were worked out on how the bike was to get to her new home. A friend was willing to drive my Hubby down to John's and then he'd follow him home as he rode the bike to our place. How strange it was to see this bike in our yard and I now realized that in order for me to enjoy the bike I would need my own gear. As I said before I was not all sure about this and borrowed a friend's jacket and wore in desperation a snowmobile helmet for my first spin on the bike. I was frightened, but thrilled at the same time. A trip to the dealership and I was outfitted with a helmet and jacket. Then came the real first ride and I was hooked. I would look forward to the rides afterwork and on the weekends. The Hubby was riding the bike to work and when he would pull into the yard I'd be geared up and ready to ride. We were out on a ride one morning decided to stop for a cup of coffee and began to joke about a name for the bike. I came up with the name "Zoot" from the Monty Python movie The Holy Grail. It was with the thought being bad naughty Zoot for making us ride all day instead of mowing the lawn, or doing household chores or... Now if you should look at my picture and see that the bike color is black not dark purple, well that is a tale for another night. Oh my I hope I haven't talked everyone's ears off, and barkeep may I please have a cherry amaretto cheesecake drink. If you can't play by OUR rules take your toys and go home!!

RE: The Bar
Very good tale there, 2beers. Finding a vehicle online can be a challenge, they always seems to be too far away, and if so the seller won’t send good pictures to make it worth the trip to get it (not to mention sellers always seem to lie about things).
I like the part about being Goldylocks, and finding a reason to be uncomfortable on each one. ![]() And a Mary Kay motorcycle, Ha, I can see it now, it would have to have the “Ask me” sticker on the back. ![]() I think “Zoot” has a very good case for not doing yard work. Have you seen some of those people? They will spend the entire day working in their yard, they are absolutely crazy. BMW bikes are cool. Last summer Lori and I had a ride on a BMW that dated from World War II, it had a sidecar and everything. It was not very powerful though, I had to get off at one point so we could get up a hill. ![]() -Rey I like Italian food and Italian roadsters |

Got a sweet little neighborhood joint right in my building, two doors over from work, and one floor down from home. I'll have to post a pic. Can I get here on my Blackberry? |
