RE: Donuts!
I thought to share a family favorite. These are a recipe from my Maternal Great-Grandmother and they are a cake-type doughnut. Which is nice if you don't have the paitience to wait for the dough to rise with the other types. Smile

Oil to fry doughnuts in.
Extra flour to use for rolling out dough

In a bowl beat until a light lemon color: 2 eggs
1 Cup white sugar

In another much larger bowl sift together: 4 Cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder

Into the egg mixture add 1 Cup of buttermilk, stir well.

Then slowly mix the egg/milk mixture in to the sifted ingredients and stir, blend until it resembles a sticky dough.

Heat the oil in a deep heavy pan until it reaches 375 degrees to 380 degrees.

While the oil is coming to temp take the extra flour and dust a surface to roll out small amounts of dough at a time. Roll it to about a 1/4th inch thickness and use a doughnut cutter to cut out the circle shapes(with small circle centers being cut at the same time).
Fry in small batches and flip over doughnuts when they become golden- brown in color on one side and repeat until it is all golden-brown on the other side. Remove from oil and place on cooling racks until cool enough to handle.

You can sprinkle them with powdered sugar, or use any type of icing or as we like to eat them warm with a big cup of coffee.

If you can't play by OUR rules take your toys and go home!! [Image: rulez.gif]
