RE: Crusin the West...
Ok, so I tried to keep a journal, but I was so bloody tired by the time I got to the next rest stop, I didn't make time. I only got the first night done...but I think it was a good release...I was pretty cynical and bitter. I'm feeling MUCH better now. Here it is:

Grand Teton Nat'l Park, 22 Aug
Well, Day 1 down. Traffic was stupid. Too many people and too much construction. Guess you have to go farther off the beaten path to get away from people. Strange that here, in a place where you are supposedly at the mercy of nature, you have to deal with inconsiderate people, like the folks next doors. Nice enough people, but they must have their music blaring...Where have all the cowboys gone? AWAY FROM HERE & your lack of surrender to the goodness of nature!
The air is a sweet perfume of pine and wood smoke. Sounds of popping fires and wind through the trees fill the air. Stars are twinkling away overhead, yet what's-her-name is still wondering where all the damn cowboys have gone. AWAY...TO GET SOME PEACE AND QUIET! Ah...that's better...
Now there are two ladies sitting outside the latrine talking about how the one's not quite out of therapy yet. Excellent, well let's not let communing with nature get in the way of your recovery.
Man, I'm in a cynical mood. I definitely need this break. It's nice to just get away for a bit...from work, from home, from everything. Just a chance to take care of me and clear my head. To try to find my way ahead...way forward...I mean I know what I want to do and I can see how to get there, it's just taking that first step. I think I did, but who knows. What do they say? "Let go and let God?" I don't think it quite works that way. Maybe more like "Let go and God will give you freewill" Yes, I will choose a bathysphere. I will choose freewill! Yuk, yuk...sorry Bubba! One of the most oft misquoted lyrics...
The sky is ridiculously clear. So many stars you can't see the constellations. Awesome. "Punifying"...to make one feel puny. Yep, I am a speck.
The lady next door (next cabin?) just realized that running her radio "might" run her battery down. Hmm, you think? Oops, Little Miss Cynical rears her head again. Ha! Should rewrite the lyrics to "Little Miss Dangerous" by the Nuge to "Little Miss Cynical"...I'll work on that.
Oh yeah...THANK GOD for mosquito repellent! Stopped the bike in front of the cabin and promptly got strafed by a squadron of the pesky buggers.
Aw...there goes the music. Oh well...
Here's a random thought...why are bees attracted to the smushed bugs on your windscreen? Is it some sort of cannibalistic thing? Or is it like humans where we can't look away from something gross? Ponderous.
Well, on that happy thought...guess that's all for now. Good night from the land of the living!

---

Yeah, so some random stuff there, but I think that once I vented my frustration with humankind, I was able to move on.

Oh and my obnoxious neighbors next door? Yeah they started fighting and screaming obscenities to each other for about 3 hours. Ah, love...'tis a wonderful thing!

I'm working on writing up the rest of the trip. In the mean time, here's a link to the album on FB for those who haven't seen it:

RE: Crusin the West...
Wow! Great pics! I've never been to that part of the country so I really appreciate the pictures. Have to say that these are the kind of roads that make my phobia kick up. Something about mountain roads..... so I have to live vicariously.

I love your writing, too:

Can't wait to read the rest of it!

... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big!

Love it CD!! Yes you seem cynical, but honest. To go somewhere like that and have to listen to the trash next door. Ugh.

Total awesomness CanyonDancerBig Grin. Love the journal entry. I wish I could have posted some of mine...a little more inflammatory than yours thoTongue, but I do empathise with some of what you went thru with other people. hope the trip went as well as it seems. Great pics as well. Glad you shared this with us...who knows, we may cross paths one of these days...me buzzing by on my thumper, and you looking and wondering" who was that crazy doof on the single cylinder riding like crazy to nowhere?":cool:Tongue

RE: Crusin the West...
SG, it would be a-freakin-mazing if we could get all of us rider-types together sometime! Kinda like a meet-up somewhere in the middle of the country or something...we could share our adventures getting there, do some local rides, then go our merry ways. Hmm...maybe...

It would definitely be interesting. It would have to be someplace where there isn't a straight road to be found.Big Grin
