RE: Camp Kitchens
Nice! I've been working away from home and I threw my tent, bag and thermarest in my van just in case. The Rockies are 2 hours away and the temp is going into the high twenties here in Edmonchuck........
Sacred cows make the best hamburgers. I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut... I don't need a receipt for the doughnut. I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, 'Don't even act like I didn't get that doughnut, I've got the documentation right here... It's in my file at home. ...Under "D".' |

RE: Camp Kitchens
Never have used a camp kitchen. We always just bring an Iron Skillet and put it directly on top of the fire or use sticks we find on the ground to cook up some hot dogs (of course we use a knife to scrap the bark off). Scramble up some eggs in the morn and throw some bacon in there and you have a spectacular breakfast. Something about the way the skillet interacts with the logs burning with the smoke just makes it so yummy.

RE: Camp Kitchens
always bring along a roll of aluminum foil as there are many things that can cooked in the coals.
the old standard of meat and veggies is good. a recipe i taught to a bunch of kids is what i call a campfire calzone. real easy and kid friendly to make. take a square of foil, place two flour tortillas on foil, one on top of the other, apply pizza quick or tomato paste, cheese and any topping you like. fold tortillas in half, fold foil in half and seal. bury in the coals for approximately 10 minutes. i have also made beef fajitas with the beef and peppers in the foil. car camping cooking is a different beast than backpacking cooking and still highly recommend the bakepacker. |
