Guilty Musical (or other) Pleasures

RE: Guilty Musical (or other) Pleasures
Growing up in the country(middle of no where) and one of the only stations available was a local Polka station on the AM dial. Which gave you the local crop reports, obituaries, what goods you could trade with others and the 4:00 o'clock Catholic Mass(whether you were Catholic or not) tends to not thrill the average teenage listener.
So for my birthday during 6th grade I recieved from my friends Foreigner (their 1st record) and sighhhhh.... oh, to admit this... a Shaun Cassidy record. Is it bad to say that at the time I thought I was ever so lucky. Thank goodness for a 1 hour bus ride to high school and a driver who didn't care what was on the radio that I found out what FM was and became educated in the ways of rock.

LOVED Andy Gibb...that's tough to beat in the cheese factor though ya gotta admit!

Foreigner 4...totally rocked! Lou Gramm is from my neck of the woods and can still belt it out...one of the best rock vocalists of the era I think! Shaun Cassidy, on the other hand, well, you might just win the prize for coming clean on that one! (Although I am now forced to admit that I had a poster of SC on my closet door when I was maybe 8 or 9 years old...he was my first TV crush!!) Wow...the burden has been lifted...I feel so much better now!

I was 16! and the tickets were a gift for my birthday.
and he was cute.
I like all sorts of stuff, from Vivaldi, to Christian Rock, to Metalica(freaks out the staff at school as much as Rush), to Linkin Park.

I grew up in an era where the local radio stations played a variety of music, some of it really off beat, and it colored my musical taste.

The Groundhog lied.

Hey - I took a girl at 16 years old to see Barry Manilow...BARRY MANILOW! I got those tickets for one purpose....and one purpose only. Unfortunately my purpose was not what she had in mind. I spent $50 on dinner, $10 on gas, $25 for flowers, $60 on tickets, and all I got was a 'thanks bye' and the door slammed in my face. At least you got to see Andy for a good cause.

I know....I know. Thou shalt be turned into BBQ pork for those sins.

I'd say you are well-rounded Nettie! I saw Boston too (2nd favorite Band to play on Rock Band BTW), but Clapton is def on my bucket list! Just saw BB King and Buddy Guy this summer...what a thrill that was! BB struggled to get through the songs - def showing his age - but still...freaking LEGEND! Buddy Guy was OUTSTANDING, even at 70+ years old!

Which Christian Rock bands do you like? Third Day is one of the best in my opinion, but I also used to listen to DC Talk and Jars of Clay (not really rock though). Used to be a band called Dime Store Prophets back in the mid 90's that totally kicked a**, but can't find them anywhere these days.

Sorry...there is nothing sexy about Barry Manilow...would not have put me in the mood either!!! Now Harry Connick Jr., that's a whole different story!!

But I absolutely LOVE Rush, old Yes (pre-Trevor Rabin), old Genesis (nothing after Inv Touch), Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, and Led Zeppelin.

Can't remember what I wore to the Rush concert (probably too busy weeping over finally seeing The Boys), but I was wearing that cool vintage zip hoodie when I left!

So glad you brought up Abba!! Voulez Voux people!

Neato, RN. I'd like to meet him.

I think I still have Andy Gibb's Flowing Rivers on vinyl. Poor guy came to a bad end. Very sad.

Hey - SHE wanted to see Barry. She just could not get enough of Barry. I was more into The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Boston....Barry has never been nor ever will be anything other than a failed miserable date that cost me almmost $200.

RE: Guilty Musical (or other) Pleasures
Debskis: Third Day is the best of them. I've seen them twice. Wow, is all I have to say.The message comes through and they really can blow the lid off of the place.
There are some Casting Crowns, 10th Avenue North, Selah, and NewsBoys, and some Switchfoot songs that I like.
Amy Grant had some great tunes when she first started out.
D.C. Talk and Jars of Clay got me into Christian music, but it was Third Day that really made an impression.

The one that got me into the band:
