RE: Love Food But Need To Lose Weight
Hey Bear, yeah you know where I am right now. Feels a bit lost and angry. I see there is light but there's an ugly road between here and there. Distracting myself helps some but doesn't always work. I was pretty grouchy last night, mostly because there is so much advertising for food on tv. Went for a drive and can't help noticing there is a restaurant every where you look in town here. No wonder people are getting so fat! Food, Sex and Violence must be the three main topics seen on tv these days. I may be a little sensitive to it, but if anyone mentions that, I'm going to sit on them.
Ack! I better go for a walk. Oh Bleat! |

RE: Love Food But Need To Lose Weight
Jetrow, I was thinking about you this morning and thought that I would pass on something someone told me years ago when I was going through a " modification of lifestyle". When we go through a major life change like these, it sometimes feels like we are losing our best friend.
Just remember though, that best friend is trying to KILL you! These words have served me well over the years, too bad I can't take credit for this little nugget. I hope this will be helpfull. With my respect and support, Bear. I want to look at life - In the available light. (off-road light that is...) |

When we go through a major life change like these, it sometimes feels like we are losing our best friend. Sage words, and repeated by my doctor and psychologist aswell. It is very much like having someone else living in your body with you. There are plenty of times when it turns into "we're doing this!" even though I don't want to eat. A while ago the lights came on and I realized that I have a big problem and that I will be standing tall before the man if I don't get things turned around. Day five of the test run and I feel pretty good just now. Although it's tricky to keep eating something small so often during the day, I can see how it works. It was a tough week but I think I can manage the diet I'll have to be on for three weeks before the surgery. These Kashi bars aren't half bad. After not eating all the stuff I was eating, popcorn with a little of that sprinkled flavouring starts looking good too. ![]() Thanks for the support you guys.

RE: Love Food But Need To Lose Weight
It is hard to change what you are eating, but I have found that eventually you get used to it. For me its tough when there is a holiday, like the recent Thanksgiving, and I just eat whatever I want for a few days, to stop again and get back on track. I start getting used to eating the good stuff!
Here in the US we have a bad reputation unfortunately, we are the "fat Americans" known the world over. Maybe you are right, its because we are surrounded by so many dang good things to eat, put in front of us everywhere we go, expected to consume at every holiday, party, and restaurant. Or do we just have a lack of willpower, or is it laziness? I do know to not be a "fat American" takes a lot of will and hard work, and I long for those days when I was young and could just eat whatever I wanted and didn't gain anything. Ah...good times. But it is nice when you lose it, to just get up from a chair like its nothing, to glide right up stairs like you're floating. After a lot of work I made it to the same weight I was at 25 years old, after doing the challenge here at the Grill in fact. I have kept it off too, gained about 3 at Thanksgiving but getting rid of that before Christmas now. Always gotta watch what you eat, thats what stinks, but I like the result. It sounds like you are on the right track, and doing what you need to do to help the problem, I hope you are successful. I like Italian food and Italian roadsters |

RE: Love Food But Need To Lose Weight
Jetrow-I heard somewhere that if you do something consistently for 3 days in a row, it becomes a habit. Carry on past that and it will soon be a way of life. You can do it!
If I'd known you were French, I'd have worn galoshes... |

RE: Love Food But Need To Lose Weight
Well well well guess who isn't crazy! Passed the psych evaluation today so they are going to meet about me and unless there are any objections I don't know about, I should get a call in a couple of weeks to meet with the surgeon and set the date for the "final cut". A great start to the new year for me.
I've been thinking, once I get this done and recover a little, I would like to start working on some high protein soup recipes. Getting enough protein is supposed to be a big deal afterward so I might as well make myself useful while I recoup. For the first while I can't eat any solid food but soup will be a transition from water and eventually Isoflex. I like the idea of soup as it travels in a thermos and I can have many small servings throughout the afternoon. Plus, it can taste a lot better than a lot of the muck suggested. Is there a "soup list" running here? If not, I seriously just coined that! Soups for every occasion and every situation. Well maybe not every one but a lot of them.
