Home Made Mincemeat
I am one of those weirdos that LOVE Mincemeat Pie...I adore it.
Every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas my Mother would make one. I could hardly wait. She used to use store bought Mincemeat and "fix it" (read make it taste better) untill I got old enough to research and find a recipe to create it myself. This particular recipe I have made 3 years running and is very good! http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisi...emeat.html Instead of adding the candied peel (which rather horrorifies me, those day-glo colors, yick!) I add the equivilant weight in other dried fruits. This year I added dried cherries, chopped dried apricots, and dried cranberries. As of writing this, this year's batch is still in the oven. I'll let you know how it turns out... "This is a standard queen outfit, then?" |

RE: Home Made Mincemeat
Well call me weird too, then. I'm with you HG, mincemeat tarts are my very most favourite treat this time of the year. Monica, not so much. Thank you for the link. Just have to find the time to make it happen now....

RE: Home Made Mincemeat
I admit I have never tried mincemeat. When I hear the word that old line from the cartoons comes to mind "I'll make mincemeat out of that mouse!", but I don't see any of that in the ingredients.
I like Italian food and Italian roadsters |
