RE: CA escape 2012
Hi all, just wanted to give a quick update. We have made it to the Motel in Colvill, MN. 34 miles or so from the border, total ride mileage of the day was 523. Tomorrow we enter Canada, then split up to discover as much as possible.

RE: CA escape 2012
Well, had a GREAT day today in Canada. We went shunpiking up to Kakabeka Falls. The Missus videoed sections and took lots of pictures. I got some video footage of the Falls as well. Thunder Bay wasn't bad, we stumbled onto Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area, the Missus got into Tim Hortons
, and then we headed back to the US. We were both given the third degree by US Border Patrol, then it was back to the motel. Tomorrow we head way north to Pine Portage on Forgan Lake.

RE: CA escape 2012
Yesterday's ride up to Pine Portage was interesting...to say the least. After a misconversion of kilometers to miles we ended up going 100 miles farther than I thought. On the way to the Portage we stopped at the Panorama Amethyst Mine. The ride up to(and back from) was a bit adventurous. Rutted gravel road that went UP hill a bit steeply(FU-UN!) The ride back to the Trans-Canada hwy was just as fun. When we got to Nipigon, we took Hwy 585 up to the Portage, which was very scenic and fun to ride. I held back on the speed as I was unfamiliar with the road, but still had a good ride. Then it was back to Thunder Bay for a final stop for the Missus at Tim Hortons for a dozen. Then back across the border and a stop at the Chicago Bay Marketplace for a couple of GREAT Roast Bef sandwiches on homemade bread and then to the motel. Total trip mileage for the day was 341. I'll have put a bit over 1500 miles on Elfie when we get home, which we'll be doing at a more leisurely pace. We'll make it 2 days back as opposed to the one up.
