Mexican Winter Getaway
Hello All:

As some of you know, I have been away for a few days, but am now back and would like to relay some of the experiences of my trip on this thread. Please keep in mind that my journalistic abilities are probably on a 3rd grade level so please don't be too hard on me.

2011 has had it's share of ups and downs for Monica and myself, but 2012 has started out on a high note with a trip that I shall not soon forget. I had the good fortune of being able to hook up with our dear friend "Brutus" and his good buddy Dave in Mexico for a few days. A year ago if you were to tell me that I would be flying by my myself down to Mexico to hang with Bubba's riding partner and good buddy Brutus, I would have thought I would have had a better chance of having tea with the Queen of England, but it's funny how things seem to work out by just falling into place.

My trip to Mexico started with my alarm clock going off at 3:20am so that I could catch the 6:00am flight from here in "K" town to SeaTac, a nice little 1 hour flight. Had an easy time getting through customs and immigration in Seattle to catch my 10:30am flight to San Jose Del Cabo. Then it get's interesting, as the plane is about to be pushed back from the terminal, the central computer at SeaTac (or something like that) shuts down not allowing anything to move in our out of the airport. We ended up sitting on the tarmac for the better part of an hour before we got rolling again. All I could think of while sitting in a stationary airplane was how this is cutting into my Margarita time. Once we did get in the air though, the pilots, bless them must've put the coals to the ol' 737 (if they can do that) because at the end of the flight they made up about 30 minutes. Once again, customs and immigration in Mexico was a breeze. I consider myself lucky on this one (3 countries in 1 day is always a daunting task). Once arriving at my hotel in Cabo, I was welcomed by Brutus and Dave sitting by the pool with a shot of tequila waiting for me (such a welcome site after a long day traveling).

The next day was a three and a half hour bus trip north to La Paz, a beautiful seaside town on the Sea of Cortez, with one of the most fantastic waterfront boardwalks you will see anywhere. What a fantastic time I had there with the boys. We did lots of exploring, did the obligatory shopping thing, spent lots of time in the ocean and checked out a bunch of wonderful restaurants and bars all serving great food and drinks. In between everything, we shared lots of laughs, swapped some stories and even cried once or twice. Such good therapy for me right now, to be able to check my troubles at the door for awhile.

But alas, all good things must come to an end, and after 5 days I had to make my way south to Cabo for my journey home that day. I ended up taking a shuttle instead of a bus this time, knocking 30 minutes off the trip. It was just me and the driver & co-driver in an 8 passenger van. I don't think I've mentioned yet how nice the people are down there. We stopped at a pullout along the highway so that the co-driver could pick up his lunch from his wife, which she had just made and I was floored when he offered me some of it. I refused at first, but he wouldn't take no for an answer, so at the end of it, I ended up eating half of the poor guy's lunch, which was very good. Kudos to his wife - Such nice people down there.

Flight to Seattle was uneventful and then the fun started trying to get out of SeaTac again. They were having some awful weather that night in the Pacific Northwest, so the flight back home to Kelowna was delayed by 90 minutes. Once again, customs and immigration in the USA & Canada was a breeze (Although I think the Canadian customs agents just wanted to get home as it was 1:15am when I went through) I arrived home to blowing snow and a temperature of -15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees for the Fahrenheit people) Quite a difference from the 86 degree temperature that I left behind. But it was good to sit in my living room, kick off my shoes, share a glass of wine with Monica and bore her with some of my stories from the past week.

What a trip, one that I shall remember for as long as I live. Life is so good! I would like to share some pics with everybody if I may. I would also like to let the Admins know that all content in this message is "Brutus Approved" in case you had any concerns.

- Relaxing at the casita after a hard day of, well, doing nothing I suppose.

How cool! I take that you took the picture of Brutus in the wet suit that appeared recently? or did Dave do that?

The Groundhog lied.
