Hi Scythe:
We are going to the big island first, staying in Kona (at the same hotel
as you and Ren Man stayed at a few years back, if I'm not mistaken)
Don't know how I know that, I think Monica had mentioned that you guys had stayed there. We will be there for 10 nights I think and then we will be flying up to the island of Kauai, where we have a condo booked for 7 nights. We are both really looking forward to taking this trip together. It ain't cheap to go there, but I'm sure we'll have a great time.

After we get back from this one, we will have a look at getting out to Wisconsin in May, depending on how it fits in with Monica's chemotherapy treatments...

SS - when on Kauai, please do the "BLUE HAWAII" helo tour. Freakin' awesome... Brand new 6-pack Eurocopters.

If yer up to it, the zip line is a riot. Do NOT do the canal water ride... rip off.
That's the area that Tropic Thunder was filmed.

You signed the contract - you must do my bidding

Thanks Mufasa:
"Blue Hawaii" helo tour it is. I'll have to tell my entertainment director (Monica) about it. I'm not quite sure what a 6-pack Eurocopter looks like, but it sure sounds cool.

I love zip lines, so I'll make a point of checking that also (Monica's zip line days are over, so I'll probably do that one solo).
Thanks again for the recommendations...

RE: Mexican Winter Getaway
So you're staying at the Royal Kona? The grand old lady of Kona town. Smile

Ask for a room in the old tower, preferably overlooking the private lagoon. We got a corner room that overlooked the lagoon and the luau garden (we sat on the lanai and listened a few times)! If you ask nicely and maybe play the sympathy card a little... it worked for us (someday I'll relate the tale of the burning car). All the furniture - and all the wood in the lobby and public areas - is koa wood, a native Hawaiian wood. Such a beautiful grain and shine!

There is a restaurant on the North side of the hotel called Huggo's. The actual restaurant is pricey and meh, but next door is Huggo's By The Sea. The sand floor and live music (sometimes hula, too) make for a relaxing and casual atmosphere. We spend a few nights there every week - we love it! I even danced there once. Blush

You'll be close to downtown and a short walk from lots of cool stuff. The Hulihe'e Palace is one of only 2 royal homes in the US. Across the street is the very first Christian church built in Hawai'i - also with lots of beautiful koa wood.

Gosh, there's so much I want to tell you! But I can cut to the chase (heh) and advise that you buy this book: The Big Island Revealed. These guys are not paid by anyone so you can trust their info and reviews. They publish a book about Kauai, too. Their website: http://www.wizardpub.com/main/home.html

No, they don't pay me Wink

Snorkel Bob also has a good book, but it's much more general, writing about all the islands in one book. It's funny and charming and a good read but the Revealed books are better. Get the SB Guide after you get that. You will see Snorkel Bob's shops on both islands - in fact, there's one right next to Huggo's. He's definitely the place to go if you want to rent snorkel gear with good weekly deals on good equipment.

Okay, I could go all night. Drop me a PM and maybe we can have a phone chat and I can give you the scoop on my favorite island. Smile

Oh, and here's a preview: http://youtu.be/YbuO76hK3-8
(the girls are Katie and her BFF)

... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big!

Nice, Onebad! My uncle had a ranch down in La Paz decades ago. My dad would fly him down in a converted B-25 to go quail and pheasant hunting. I would guess it looks completely different now, compared to the pictures my dad took there Big Grin Glad you had a good time!

I'm in, ladies! Just need to get a passport.......

If I'd known you were French, I'd have worn galoshes...

Aaah, the good old days, before passports and airport security checks. That sounds like it would have been a lot of fun. Not too many people have a B-25 in their backyard these days...
La Paz the town has probably changed quite a bit, but I bet that the outlying areas are pretty much as they were 30 or 40 years ago from what I saw..

Sorry that it's taken this long to read your post (I wanted to take the time to take it all in, that's a lot of information that you have written down). Monica and I are certainly going into this trip loaded with some good info. Thanks for all your help and recommendations. If there is anything else we need help with, we will certainly be in touch..

Thanks Again....

By the way, awesome video, very well done....

What a great experience OB7. Looks like you did some SCUBA. How was the diving? Never been there and have been thinking of a dive trip this spring.
