Recommended book: Fat of the Land
My fly fishing pal/author Lang started a blog which then turned into a book called Fat Of The Land: Adventures of a 21st Century Forager.
An exquisite tale of his foray into the Pacific Northwest to learn how to live off of it and know it all so much more. Every chapter has a recipe, too. I highly recommend it. |

RE: Recommended book: Fat of the Land
The Pacific Northwest and fly fishing....Have you ever read David James Duncan's , "The River Why?"
Sacred cows make the best hamburgers. I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut... I don't need a receipt for the doughnut. I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, 'Don't even act like I didn't get that doughnut, I've got the documentation right here... It's in my file at home. ...Under "D".' |

Sure, along with River Teeth, but I haven't read the Brothers K yet. I enjoy his work. He's a great speaker, too and is really involved in protecting habitat.
He reminds me a bit of Rick Bass, who wrote the wonderful 'Book of Yaak', about one of the last unfettered spots in Northwest Montana. Did you check out Lang's blog? He has a dandelion wine recipe up right now, along with several other treats! The thing is, ya gotta werk for your grub. |

RE: Recommended book: Fat of the Land
"Fat of the Land" reminds me of Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" where Lenny and George dream of having their own 10-acre place, raise rabbits and live off the fat of the land. Could you post Lang's blog url again for me?
