Pike Place Bar and Grill - Seattle
So, Saturday night Ren Man and I made our way across the Sound on the ferry to meet up with other fans of the CPT. We were all going to see a tribute band called 2112 at the Hard Rock. We're not big fans of the food at the Hard Rock - if we're paying $12 for a burger, that thing better be DAMN good! So we stopped in at Pike Place Market at their Bar & Grill.
It overlooks the cobbled street that runs in front of the Market and they had the windows open for a nice breeze which, after an 8 block walk, was just the thing. They also got us cold water immediately - I love that! The manager brought our water and noticed our shirts (I was wearing a T4E tee and RenMan was wearing the "mooning the R&RHoF" shirt) and said, "You must be going to the Hard Rock!" He'd noticed the marquee there and noted that he had to work when the Boys are playing here but his wife is going (another Geddycorn!). He then suggested the fish & chips for dinner which RenMan ordered. I ordered the fish filet sandwich. Both were excellent! RenMan also had an on-tap dark beer. Once we got over to the Hard Rock and found seats, he ordered a stout and I got my usual tropical rum drink (which I nursed all evening). We met up with our fellow CPT fans - it's always nice to be able to put names and faces together, innit? -- and chatted for a bit. They were at the standing tables and I had to sit, so we stayed within waving distance. Okay, I did have to get up and watch the guitarist when they played "La Villa" though. The band was pretty good (not as good as our other local Trib band, Anthem) and their enthusiasm made up for their failings in the music department. The guitarist was also the singer, though, and I had to admire his chutzpah. Singing while playing Lerxst-stuff is tough enough. The bassist was good but the drummer was great (he'd have to be to play Bubba's stuff!). They did a few songs that you don't often hear a trib band do: Force Ten, The Big Money, Time Stand Still, The Weapon.... they even tried their hands at Caravan and BU2B. Rough but hey, we CPT fans are pretty forgiving - we know the difficulty level. And, as I said, they were just so darned happy to be playing the songs. Next month, we hope to go see Anthem again. Those guys are pitch-perfect, let me tell you. I spoke with their guitarist a little bit and we commiserated over that 6-fret reach that neither of us can quite duplicate. But Doug is my role model and I love watching him play (I learn better by watching). I shall report back on the food at the Muckleshoot next month..... ... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big! |
